Award-winning Senate Report 2017/18 for UBC Library
UBC Library’s Senate Report is an annual digital publication that is created by my team, Library Communications and Marketing, to highlight the various milestones we achieve in a fiscal year. We promote and share this publication through a landing page that we recreate annually, a downloadable PDF, social media assets, and a presentation deck.
Re-envisioning the publication
My team, UBC Library’s Communications and Marketing, had a goal to recreate the look and feel of the publication. We wanted this year’s publication to feel fresh and modern with a more minimalistic approach.
To give our readers a more intimate and updated look into the Library, I selected an image from a photoshoot I captured and directed. The image features students in one of our high-traffic spaces – Chapman Learning Commons – using some of our new equipment. By selecting this image, I wanted to reintroduce the Library as an innovative hub for learning and collaboration.
This Senate Report won Gold for the 2019 AVA Digital Awards.
Leading the photography
Being the lead photographer for this Senate Report was especially career changing. For the cover photo in particular, I had to manage and direct the photoshoot. From the outfits to the location, it was vital that we use. images showcasing the technology and services that UBC Library has to offer.
Developing the infographics
My inspiration for the infographics was to keep it digestible and streamlined, similar to Bloomberg’s social media assets. Given all of the big data points that we share in this publication, I worked closely with the Director of Communications to ensure that we were being critical about the data point we were going to share.
AVA Digital Awards: Gold winner
The Senate Report is an annual publication presented to the UBC Senate that highlights initiatives, budgetary decisions, acquisitions and donors at the Library. The Library is mandated to provide updates on financial spending and chooses to share other key outcomes and achievements.
