Why languages matter

UBC Faculty of Arts offers a wide array of language programs and courses for undergraduate students. From Cantonese to German, First Nations Endangered Languages like hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓ to American Sign Language, there are many opportunities for students to strengthen their intercultural understanding and foster a community through language.

About

Language learning is an invaluable asset in our everyday lives. Having an additional language can provide us with a deeper understanding of our surroundings, as well as open up doors to many different industries and opportunities. This Arts languages hub features initiatives and stories around multilingual experiences and language learning.

Working with subject experts

Without the Library is UBC Library Communications and Marketing campaign that solely focuses on the students, the platforms they’re active on, and their thoughts about the Library. Conceptualizing with students in mind, I looked toward modern, fun, and youth-focused platforms for inspiration.

Creating the landing page

Playing outside the box of corporate design, I had the opportunity to autonomously animate and illustrate fun graphics. I created all of the illustrations from scratch, crafting most of the pieces based on the story of the student.

Developing conceptual images

On the communications side, I led the promotional strategy of the campaign, which includes paid Instagram and Facebook ads. This was the first paid campaign that the Library Communications and Marketing team conducted, and I can proudly say that managed the analytics and based strategy moving forward on data.
